Ask a Question

Reader submissions are opening later. Read the adult, privacy-safe rules for general questions and how reader questions differ from questions asked online.

Reader submissions are not open yet. This page records the rules that will apply before the form is switched on, so nobody mistakes a paraphrased online question for a genuine reader letter—and includes an instant browser-only finder across all 65 published Dot Sexual research guides and 5 interactive tools below.

Dot Sexual answers general topics from published sources. We do not reply with personal medical or legal advice, and an urgent problem should never wait for this page.

When submissions open, a good question will be

  • from an adult aged 18 or over;
  • general enough that a sourced answer can help many readers;
  • specific about the decision or confusion—for example, which date starts a waiting clock, what a pack measurement means, or which official route to use for a test;
  • free of names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, usernames, reports, prescriptions, intimate photographs and other identifying details.

Please never submit

  • a request for diagnosis, treatment, medicine dose, report interpretation or emergency triage;
  • details that identify you, a partner, a clinician, a clinic or another private person;
  • anything involving a minor, coercion, abuse detail or another person’s private sexual information;
  • links to intimate images or files. The future form will not accept uploads.

For personal care, use Talk to a real clinician. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

How a submitted question may be used

  • Submitting will grant Dot Sexual permission to publish a shortened, paraphrased, de-identified general version.
  • We may combine very similar questions and will say when that has happened.
  • There will be no guarantee of publication and no individual reply.
  • Identifying details will be removed before editorial use, but the safest practice is not to send them at all.
  • A published answer will be researched from sources, not answered from the wording of the submission alone.

Reader questions vs. questions asked online

Dot Sexual also studies recurring questions adults ask on public forums and in search. Those are labelled “asked online (paraphrased)”. They are not reader submissions and will never be dressed up as letters to the desk.

Only a genuine submission through this page, after the form opens, can be labelled “Reader question (paraphrased)”.

Before the form opens

We will add the form only after the privacy route, retention period and moderation process are configured. Until then, use the library finder above, open Tools & Charts, or browse the six research desks:
